Subject: 16-bit samples
Hey all. I'm looking for 16-bit samples of instruments, about 22khz
in mono. I want to use them in UltraTraker, so it would be good if they
didn't have a lot of extra stuff in them. (so, raw samples would be the best)
Does anyone know of an FTP site with some? Or, does anyone have a collection
of any?

What limit? My CW for Win's 2.0 supports 1Mb GUS with no patch.
Are you sure the same patch set loads and plays OK with other
sequencers?

This has been asked/debated before I'm sure, but I just got a cd rom drive.
Can anyone diagram a cable / tell me where to buy / sell me a cable to
attach direct audio out to some input on the gravis?
thanks,
mike

Subject: PianoWorks and Finale Questions
Good Morning Guser's
My wife got me a copy of PianoWorks from Temporal Acuity.
Unfortunately, it does not seem to support the GUS "MIDI"
port directly. I have the Gravis MIDI breakout box and a
Roland PC-200 MKII keyboard that work just fine with
Cakewalk for Windows 2.0, but PianoWorks can't find it.
According to the manual, PianoWorks supports the SB, PAS,
Adlib, ATI sound card families, and, of course MPU-401
MIDI cards and a whole host of others. What's the poop
on the GUS MIDI Port (I have an early GUS - not rev 3.4)?
I have tried MEGAEM in hopes that the stated unimplimented
feature of MPU-401 emulation would somehow magically appear.
While it is the Holiday season and all, fate did not go my way.
SBOS 3.7b doesn't seem to do it. Anybody got any clues as
to how to make this program work? Anyone using it (and now
playing piano where before you were all thumbs)?
On another note - I have also recently purchased Finale from
Coda Systems. It's a bit inpenetrable and I'm in the early
stages of the learning curve. I have had quite a bit of
trouble getting any noises (besides my quiet cursing) out of
the program. Is there anything special I need to do to get
music out with the GUS?
Thanks for your help and patience,
Pete Oehler

Subject: Updated Bosendorfer Piano Patch
A new version 2 of the Bosendorfer Solo Piano Patch for GUS, bosen_l2.zip,
has been put in the epas:submit directory. The main difference is that this
file has different (mostly longer) decay and release envelope times. Since
Patch Maker Lite has no envelope control features, I plugged in the desired
envelope parameters into the patch file with a hex editor.
One concern I had in making this new version was what voice number setting I
should use in the ultrasound window driver. Envelope times are a function
of the number of voices selected. A setting of 32 voices will result in
envelope times more than twice as long as with a setting of 14 voices. It
was tempting to choose a voice number somewhere in the middle, such as 24,
as a compromise and since that's about where I normally set it. However,
all the Gravis/Eye&I patches have envelopes created using 14 voices. So I
reluctantly decided to create envelope times with the window driver set to
14 voices. If you use a higher number, the result will be abnormally long
decay and release times. Some people may actually prefer this effect.
Please remember that to use this patch you will need to install the new
ultrasound window drivers that come with "Patch Maker Lite" (pmak110.zip).
Comments are welcome. Thanks to Phat H Tran and Chris Wilkins for their help.

Subject: Wanted: Voyetra (Piano Works) midi driver for GUS
Hi, Does any know if there is a Voyetra midi driver for the GUS??
These drivers are used for several dos midi programs including Piano Works
and Band in a box. I have Piano Works, which is a great piano instruction
program by the way, and I would really like to use it with the GUS midi
port. I contacted Piano Works, and they told me that they do now write
the midi drivers them selves. They get them from a company called Voyetra
in New York, which I have not been able to contact. Right now, I have
a MM401 midi card in my system, just to accomidate Piano Works. All the
other midi software I have works fine the GUS midi port. I really need
the mm401 card for something else. If anyone can help me locate this
Voyetra midi driver for the GUS, I would really appreciate it!
Thanks,
John
